Is there a way to specify generic DNS entries in Netmaker's DNS table? One without the automatically applied suffix for the current network

Not currently but it is under consideration

Ok. I'm going to try modifying netmaker.hosts directly for now. Then I'll probably have to figure out a way to stop it from being overridden, i.e. apply my changes automatically when it is touched or something

Or guess I can just specify my own hosts file and point Corefile at it? I'll try that

Take a look at hostctl https://github.com/guumaster/hostctl.  It is how netclient updates the hosts file
