thanks for all the helpful input, apologies if I was a bit rude- loads of late nights and not enough fun recently. I think we are very close- I am running Big Sur and Monterey on a test machine and you cannot use 'netclient join -t xxx' because macOS doesn't recognise netclient as a command. I think we need to symlink /etc/netclient/netclient to /usr/local/bin and use a postinstall script to launch the app which will install the daemon etc. I'll give it a try- but my question was about launching the app- you can't do it according to the instructions...
